The personal mount of Heinz Bär wears the typical camouflage scheme of RLM 74, 75 and 76. The yellow lower cowling identified German aircraft flying over the Western Front. The white rudder was often used by the formation leaders from 1943 through to the second half of 1944. The red fuselage band was seen on aircraft of several fighter units during the spring of 1944. Besides JG 1, the same marking could be found on JG 300 aircraft. Heinz Bär is the eighth ranking fighter ace of the Third Reich, shooting down 221 enemy aircraft. He was awarded the second highest German millitary honor – the Knight’s Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords. He became the CO of the famous JV 44 unit armed with Me 262 jet fighters and colourful Fw 190 D-9s.
